Places to visit near Chopta



Tungnath Temple:-"Tungnath" is the highest Shiva temple in the world , situated around 3680 meters above sea level and is the highest of the five panch kedar temples located in the mountain range.
Pandavas built this temple as advised by vyas rishi since they were culpable of slaying their own relatives during the Mahabharata war at Kurukshetra and their act could be pardoned only by Lord Shiva.

Tungnath is generally known as its cool climate throughout the year. in winters tungnath turns into the snow fields and therefore temple remains closed for around 6 months during winter.


Chandrashila:-Chandrashila "Moon Rock" is located around 3700 meters above sea level. This is the top of the Tungnath. This peak provides the picturesque views of great Himalayan range like Nandadevi,Trusul,Kedar Peak,Bandarpunch and Chaukhamba peak. One can feel the ultimate peace at this peak. This is the most famous easy trek of uttarakhand



About this trek:- Tungnath and Chandrashila trek are easy to moderate trek. Chandrashila is around 5km from from Chopta whereas Tungnath is just 3.5 km from Chopta. In between the trek you will passed by beautiful deodear trees and meadows. You can see the rare spices of birds, wild animals.
After trekking 3.5 km from chopta you will reach at Tungnath temple , relax for a while , worship and behold the ancient architecture of the temple.
After finishing these activities start your trek for Chandrashila which is just 1.5 km from Tungnath temple.
On reaching Chandrashila you can enjoy the mesmerizing view of great Himalaya. Spend some quality time here ,forget all the things and let yourself be lost in this pleasant moment.    
After spending you quality time you can trek back to chopta camps.
